Sometimes, I get urges to go shopping at strange times. Like 2 a.m. But I always have to settle for Wal-Mart or go nowhere at all, because, as far as I know, 24-hour Targets do not exist.
During training, the human resources director said that one of the ways Target distinguishes itself from its competitors - namely, Wal-Mart and Kmart - is by its overall cleanliness. So when Target closes its doors at night, an overnight cleaning crew comes in to make everything spotless before the next day's guests arrive.
Wal-Mart cleans overnight as well, but the crew needs to operate around the customers, who can mess things up again right after they're cleaned. Target avoids this problem by closing for the night, which makes for a much more attractive store.
